Average Timeline

Month 1–2: Exploration and Enrollment
Attend a Trade Jobs Matter career fair or workshop to explore trade careers. Enroll in a training program that is built to help you achieve your professional goals.

Month 3–6: Foundational Training
Begin introductory courses or pre-apprenticeship programs, learning basic skills like safety protocols and tool usage. Expect 10–20 hours per week of study or hands-on practice.

Year 1–2: Apprenticeship
Join a paid apprenticeship through our partners, combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Most apprenticeships last 2–5 years, depending on the trade (e.g., 4 years for electricians, 2 years for HVAC technicians).

Year 3+: Career Launch
Complete your apprenticeship, earn certifications, and start working as a journeyman or pursue advanced roles. Many tradespeople earn $40,000–$60,000 annually within 3–5 years, with potential for six figures as a master tradesperson or business owner.
